Sky's Bernal wins the inaugural Colombia Oro y Paz (2.1)

Egan Arley Bernal takes his first win in Sky colours with overall victory at the Colombia Oro y Paz (2.1)

Bernal, fresh from taking the honours in the youth classification at the Santos Tour Down Under, held off both Nairo Quintana and Rigoberto Uran to win his country's new premier stage race to win by eight seconds.. The 21 year old finished second on the final stage behind Dayer Quintana to break a four way tie for the lead going into the day, with Rigoberto Uran in the leader's jersey.

The day's action on the 187.8km stage centred on long break of 140km featuring at one stage 33 riders. Despite having some of the greatest Columbian riders in the pro peloton breathing down their necks driven along by Movistar in favour of Nairo Quintana, a small group including Dayer Quintana and Bernal managed to stay clear.

Speaking after Bernal said "I am proud and grateful to my team. There was not much to lose and much to gain ", underlining a victory that caught many by surprise.
