Porte wins ITT but fails to dislodge De Gendt.
Bourgoin-Jallieu, Wednesday june 7th 2017 – Richie Porte (BMC Racing Team) claimed his first stage win at the Critérium du Dauphiné, confirming he’s the world’s number one stage race rider this year after he won the Santos Tour Down Under and the Tour de Romandie as well as the queen stage of Paris-Nice.
The Asutralian set a time twelve seconds faster than world champion Tony Martin (Team Katusha-Alpecin) over the 23.5 km from La Tour-du-Pin from Bourgion-Jalieu. Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) rounded out the podium at 24".
The time gaps weren't enough though to change the rave leadership as he remained 27 seconds down on race leader Thomas De Gendt (Lotto-Soudal) who defended himself very well with a top 10 finish against the clock.
Chris Froome (Sky) arrived in eighth place to put him in sixth place overall, 1'04" down at this stage on the race leader, two second behind Alberto Contador (Trek-Segafredo).
