Andre Greipel timed his move to perfection to win the a textbook bunch sprint at the end of Paris-Nice stage 5 in Bourg-de-Peage on Thursday. The German champion, already crowned in a stage of the Race to the Sun in 2015, waited for the last minute to make his effort against strong headwind to upstage stage 1 winner Arnaud Demare (FDJ) and Ducth champion Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo). France's Julian Alaphilippe (Quick Step) retained his yellow jersey and his 33-seconds lead over compatriot Tony Gallopin ahead of three grueling hilly stages at the weekend.

Greipel: "I had very good sensations today. It was a slight uphill finish with a little bit of wind. I waited for the right moment before triggering my effort. It was very nervous in the last 40 kilometers, all the sprinter teams wanted to be ahead. I am very happy to have won today on Paris-Nice."
