The Stage four in dividual time trial at Paris Nice sees Juian Alaphillipe take centre stage while BMC dominate in the Team Time Trial at Tirreno Adriatico.
France's Julian Alaphilippe found a new top gear pushing his career to new heights with an emphatic victory in the 14.5-km time trial to Mont-Brouilly on Wednesday. The 24-year-old clinched his first Paris-Nice stage and his first yellow jersey, beating Alberto Contador by 19 seconds and another French hopeful, Tony Gallopin (Loto-Soudal), by 20 seconds.
The win gave the Quick Step team leader a comfortable 33 seconds lead over Gallopin with Spain's Gorka Izaguirre (Movistar) third, 47 seconds adrift. Contador is 8th in the GC, 1:31 behind the new leader.
Speaking to journalists Alaphilippe said, "I am so happy. It is a wonderful victory. The Yellow Jersey represents so much in the cycling history, and I’m proud to wear it. I knew I could do it, that I was close. Now, with the help of the whole team, I will try to keep it until Nice, next Sunday. When I crossed the finish line, I had a huge thought for my friend Fabien Rossolini (speaker at the Tour de France) who died a few weeks ago. I knew Paris-Nice was one of his favorite races”.
