Team TIBCO wins overall National Criterium Calendar title
Team TIBCO riders Jennifer Purcell and Lindsay Myers accepted the National Criterium Calendar (NCC) award for the Best Overall Team today at the TD Bank Mayor’s Cup in Boston. Team TIBCO consistently delivered top results throughout the race series and proved they are the best team in the U.S. when it comes to criterium racing. They clinched the series win with 992 points, over 350 points ahead of the next best team.

The NCC showcases the country’s top criterium-only events and features an overall ranking system that determines the best individual female cyclists, as well as the best teams in the U.S. In addition to taking the overall team title, Team TIBCO riders Samantha Schneider and Jennifer Purcell took 4th and 5th place, respectively, in the individual standings.

“We are extremely pleased with how well the Team performed this season,” said Team TIBCO directeur sportif Angela van Smoorenburg. “Not only did the riders work together to consistently put teammates on the podium, but we also earned three National Championship titles with Megan Guarnier winning a stars and stripes jersey on the road, and Sam Schneider taking the U23 Criterium and Road Race national championships.”

Team TIBCO consistently put up results throughout the criterium series, including top finishes at the Tour de Grove and USA CRITS Speedweek in May, as well as strong performances at the Air Force Cycling Classic and Tour of America’s Dairyland in June. The NCC series also included the Exergy Twilight Criterium and Grand Rapids Cycling Classic in July.

“To win the NCC overall team standings is one more achievement we are proud to add to our palmares,” van Smoorenburg said.

Meanwhile, U.S. National Road Champion Megan Guarnier represented her country at the World Championship Road Race in the Netherlands this morning. Guarnier’s U.S. teammate Amber Neben finished in 4th place after doing the lion’s share of the work in a seven-woman break that was whittled down to five riders in the final lap of the race. Guarnier closed the day in 33rd, while Marrianne Vos won the rainbow jersey.
