Cyclocross Superprestige #2 - Hoogstraten, Elite Men

World Champion Niels Albert has won the second race of the Superprestige in Hoogstraten, his eight win of the season. The prince of Belgian cyclocross was the best, in a race threatened by heavy showers, over Czech Champion Zdenek Stybar and Belgian Champion and still the king of Belgian Cyclocross Sven Nys. Kevin Pauwels and Klaas Vantornout finished in fourth and fifth place. Due to his win Albert takes over the overall lead by one single point from Sven Nys. Zdenek Stybar is third at two points.

Czech Martin Zlamalik took the hole shot and turned into the field as first. Albert missed his start and had to fight back from position fifteen. In the second lap when Albert bridged up to the break he went down and had to chase once again.

In front Albert's team mate Radomir Simunek took the lead from Zlamalik. Due to the rain the course turned into a slide. Both Klaas Vantornout and Sven Nys crashed and had to fight back from around position twenty. In the meantime Albert joined the break again, didn't waited for Nys to come back, and immediately attacked followed by Zdenek Stybar.

Albert didn't temporize and dropped Stybar on the muddy but hilly course. Stybar didn't gave up and was trailing about 10 seconds from the superman of BKCP-Powerplus. In the back Sven Nys was impressive and moved up to a group with Klaas Vantornout, Kevin Pauwels, Radomir Simunek, Gerben de Knegt and Erwin Vervecken who battled for the third podium spot. The gap with Albert was already 40 seconds.

Nys was clearly the best of them and dropped his companions. Going into the penultimate lap Stybar was still within ten seconds of Albert but the latter one didn't make any mistakes and took his eight win of the season.
